Sir Ed

11Jan08

There has been lot going on … and ive been filing things away to write about. But a very sad event took place this beautiful morning here in Auckland.

Sir Edmund Hilary.

Sir Ed is best known around the world for his conquest of Everest. Recently I had the chance to talk to Peter Hilary at a seminar (thanks AB for the invitation) … and the impact the Hilary family have had on the people around the Himalayas’ is simply profound. Peter spoke very passionately about his father and its evident from those who knew him well, Sir Ed was not only a great adventurer and philanthropist (and one of my heroes) but a solid Kiwi Bloke.

I think my mind is still twrilling to write more. Our thoughts are with the Hilary family at this time.

“Well George, we finally knocked the bastard off.”
Hillary’s first words, to lifelong friend George Lowe, on returning from Everest’s summit

Clunk

03Jan08

Back at work today … and on Windows after close to 10 days of solid Linux and MacOSX use. This is quite a rare occurrence for me as even on the best of days I find myself, even for a small amount of time on a Windows machine. For some reason things just seem clunky and I miss my multiple desktops

At some point during the firework display that brought in the New Year for Auckland … i found myself thinking that I really should maintain just one place for my rambles.

Alright …

Alright, alright … I’ll maintain one place to post my ramblings … at least i’ll try.

Those of you who have been following would have noted with much amusement the several different places I have been putting content online. Perhaps in part to the fact that I cannot seem to settle on a service (or really, i just like trying out new services) you have had to keep pinging me to ask where my last article/picture has been posted.

Fingers crossed, i’ll reside at wordpress.com for quite sometime.

“It is known that there is an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the product of a deranged imagination.”

- Douglas N Adams

and thus it is with a sense of imagination one must read this ‘blog’ … warning content has not been checked for sanity or factual accuracy.
